9125 (LMS code 'QF', BR code 'TO') was constructed in 1935 as a third class vestibule carriage at the LMSR Wolverton Carriage and Wagon Works to diagram 1915 is one of a batch of 60 to lot 857. After withdrawal from revenue earning service, converted in 1964 to a Signal and Telegraph Engineers Lecture and Cinema coach and renumbered to departmental stock as KDM395892. TOPS code: QPV. Converted to an S&T mobile cinema and lecture facility and since withdrawal stored for many years at the Carnforth site of the West Coast Railway Company, 9125 was used there by local children for a den and it is fortunate indeed that it did not suffer a worse fate. These carriages were constructed with a seating capacity of 60 rather than the normal 56, for use primarily on excursion trains. Note the smaller passenger window at the end where the extra single row of seats (face to back arrangement) is located.
The heavily modified interior as found when surveyed at Carnforth. The open area has been split into several compartments the largest of which is the auditorium of the cinema/lecture facility. Two ramped areas of floor originally had ex DMU seating affixed, the windows obscured by removable plywood covers. The three square black holes in the far wall were for use by the projectors located in the room beyond. Other rooms include working area, staff sleeping and day accommodation together with storage compartments.
Deterioration over the preceding two years had taken its toll on 9125 too and so on its arrival at Rowsley work quickly began to tidy up the interior by removing all accumulated rubbish. The sloped flooring was also removed to allow the original one underneath to dry out. With the gutters cleaned out and the vehicle secured 9125 is now protected as best we can against the worst effects of deterioration due to the rain and sun, however covered accommodation would be more appropriate in the longer term.
